Choosing a brunch spot in Vancouver’s many neighbourhoods can be a challenge. I often go to my usual spots like Jam Cafe, Medina Cafe or OEB. But recently, I’ve been visiting the West End’s Denman Street more frequently and was amazed by the many restaurants that have popped up through the years. There’s plenty to do just in that area. It’s perfect for hang-outs or a quick after-work catch-up. There are many different activities that are all within walking distance, making it enjoyable even when it’s raining.

1. Brunch at Cafe Portrait
This cafe has a warm and cozy ambiance with an eclectic collection of self-portraits. Patrons can choose from dishes named after renowned artists such as Monet and Cezanne. Among their offerings, our favourite was the Turkish eggs and pastrami which we paired with strong Turkish coffee and a side of Turkish delights.

2. Walk by the beach on English Bay
After brunch, take a stroll along English Bay which is just a few steps away from the cafe. It’s a nice little scenic stroll with a view of the mountains and ships anchored in Vancouver waters . The walk is enjoyable, rain or shine, and offers a break from the usual coffee shop setting.

3. Have desserts at D’oro Cafe
One of our favourite things about D’oro is that it’s one of the cafes that close later than usual (11 PM) and it also has one of the city’s best pistachio gelato. Our most recommended item? Pairing their brownie with the pistachio gelato!
4. Explore shops at Robson Street
To cap off your West End excursion, head to Robson Street and explore its diverse offerings. With a mix of low to high-end shops, the street is not only a shopping haven but also a hub for various bubble tea joints, snack shops, and convenience stores. From corn dog spots to Korean and Japanese groceries, Robson Street caters to every taste. Be sure to venture inside the Robson Public Market for hidden gems like Nine Dumplings, and don’t miss the chance to grab beautiful blooms at J&J’s convenience store, all at a reasonable price.
